Vasilis Kostas is a world-class laouto player from Greece who attended the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute in Boston, MA on a full scholarship. He has performed and collaborated with legendary musicians around the world including Tigran Hamasyan, Simon Shaheen, Antonio Serrano and has studied next to the living legends of Jazz tradition like Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Terri Lyne Carrington and more. With Berklee, he appeared as a soloist on laouto with the World Strings Orchestra conducted by Eugene Friesen and traveled to Spain to present Greek music through the prism of the Greek lute. His groundbreaking performances on the laouto open new horizons for the instrument in both the Greek traditional and jazz worlds. This is featured in his latest collaboration with the living legend and master of the clarinet, Petroloukas Halkias, performing a few of the most demanding pieces of Greek instrumental music. Moreover, under the mentorship of Danilo Perez at Berklee Global Jazz Institute, Vasilis has developed his own way of applying jazz improvisation on the laouto and bring new colors to the fore. Kostas has performed at the Carnegie Hall, Montreal Jazz Festival and Panama Jazz Festival.
